Founded in October 2009 and located at Seon-gam Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi Creation Center is an international residency institute that has geared its efforts to implement many programs for international exchanges and local co-operation. Gyeonggi Creation Center is a facility to stimulate creativity in diverse fields, and Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art is a place to exhibit modern visual art. Both work together in supporting emerging artists.
As a co-operative program between two institutes, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art(GMoMA) hosted an exhibition, called Quantum Jump, in 2015. Four artists were selected from artists-in-residence at Gyeonggi Creation Center(GCC): KO Woori, MIN Sunghong, PYEON Daesik, and HONG Ran. Through their works, they had a chance to communicate with their audience about their techniques and purposes in creating art. The word “Quantum Jump” signifies a big leap, a leap into new and exciting experiments and innovative creations. Quantum Jump allowed the artists opportunities for exploring new forms and experimenting with new ideas. The audience could feel a sense of awe and wonder when challenged by these interesting and very different works of art.
The selected four artists proudly presented experimental Quantum Jump at GMoMA from August 1 to 24. Through this trial exhibition, artists can have an opportunity to review and assess individual exhibits prior to the actual group relay exhibition, and it also becomes a test bed to figure out additional effects brought by four different creative characteristics of it being held in November 2015 through March 2016.
